sweet我们都知道是甜的意思，那“sweet water”难道是“甜水”的意思吗？这个一定要好好看看哦，接下来就跟着阡陌姐姐开始今天的学习吧~

“Sweet water”不是“甜水”
字面上来看，它的意思好像是是「甜水」or 「糖水」，但是，sweet water”的真正意思是“淡水”，即"fresh water", 也可以表示“甘泉”。
Sweet”除了“甜的”的意思外，还有几个常用的含义：

1. 淡的，不咸的；新鲜的（fresh)

2. 悦目的，令人愉快的，惬意的

例句：

It's necessary for us to bring enough sweet water when we travel in the deserts.  

在沙漠中旅行时，对我们来说带上足够的淡水是非常有必要的。

Be sweet on sb. 热恋某人，爱上某人

例句：

Roberts seems to be sweet on your sister. 

罗伯茨似乎对你妹妹有爱慕之意。

She's still sweet on him after all this time!

Sweet nothings情话

例句：

They're the couple in the corner, whispering/murmuring sweet nothings to each other. 角落里有一对情侣，正在互相说着情话。

Go your own (sweet) way 随心所欲

例句：

It doesn't matter how much advice I give Cathy, she always goes her own sweet way.

不管我给Cathy多少建议，她都随心所欲。

to hold water 确实的，站得住脚的

例句：

That excuse simply doesn't hold water.

那个借口根本站不住脚。

water off a duck's back 毫无作用

例句：

I keep telling my friend it's foolish to gamble all of his money, but it's like water off of a duck's back.

我一直告诉我的朋友，不要那么傻，把所有的工资都用在赌博上。可是，我的话对他全然不起作用。

to make my mouth water 让我流口水

例句：

The roast duck that restaurant serves is my favorite dish. Every time I think about it, it makes my mouth water.

我最喜欢吃那个饭馆的烤鸭。每当我想起它我就会流口水。

be in hot water 表示遇到麻烦，陷入困境

例句：

A boy can be in hot water with his mother, if he comes into the house with dirty, wet shoes. 

一个男孩子如果穿着脏兮兮、湿漉漉的鞋子进家门，会给妈妈惹很多麻烦。

keep one's head above water 这个习惯用语就是说，在艰难的处境下为生系，克服生活、工作和财务上的困难。

例句：

Before the new highway was built, I could easily fill every table in my restaurant. These days, with fewer diners, it's become a struggle to stay in business. I'm barely keeping my head above water. I don't know how much longer I can afford to stay open.

这位餐馆老板说：没有那条高速公路的时候，我的餐馆里总是坐得满满的。可是如今，客人少多了，钱越来越难赚，能维持收支平衡就已经很不容易了。我真不知道还能坚持多久。
